// Darwin Barney and the Cubs Prevent Apocalypse, Snap Dan Uggla’s Hit Streak at 33 Games//

oldtimefamilybaseball:

Despite a sacrifice fly in the first inning, Dan Uggla could not hit a ball that found the earth safely in yesterday’s game, thanks in large part to the glovework of Darwin Barney.

In the bottom of the fifth, Dan Uggla hit a pop fly to right field that forced Barney to make a long run and snag it fully extended:

And Uggla would have extended his streak, the longest since Utley’s 35 game streak in 2006, had it not been for that no-good Barney. Check out the evidence below showing the distance that Barney ran compared to rightfielderTyler Colvin.

Red represents Barney, yellow is Colvin.

Though the video doesn’t show Colvin’s exact starting spot we can make an educated guess and it certainly appears that he went about half the distance that Barney did. But with Barney fully aware of the consequences should Uggla’s streak continue, he turned his effort knob up to 11 and made the catch.

And what is the proper response to saving the earth:

Nailed it.

Get it, Darwin!
